Waterfalls Arts + Midcoast Villager
Solutions IRL: Mindfuel
We’re excited to partner with the Midcoast Villager to host a special afternoon of mindful artmaking for teens at Waterfall Arts as part of Solutions IRL: Mindfuel. We’ll be welcoming several local organizations—including Coastal Mountains Land Trust x Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition, Torchlight Media, and MidCoast Shakespeare Studio—to share creative activities and hands-on experiences with young people from across the Midcoast.
Do you know a teen (ages 12–19)? Local teens are invited to take a break, get creative, and connect with friends at this free event focused on youth mental health and community. Mindfuel encourages teens from Belfast, Rockland, and surrounding communities to step away from screens and spend time creating, moving, and socializing together in a welcoming, supportive environment.
Throughout the afternoon, teens can drop in and explore art workshops, photography, theater activities, and other creative projects led by local youth organizations. There will also be snacks, time to relax, and space to meet new people—no pressure, just a chance to recharge and have fun offline.
We hope teens from across the Midcoast will join us for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and fun. Whether they come to make art, try something new, or just spend time with friends, Mindfuel is all about creating space for young people to recharge and feel supported.
Mark your calendars and drop by Waterfall Arts!
March 28 from 2–5 p.m.
The event is free, open to teens ages 12–19, and no registration is required.
Schedule of activities:
2 PM – Birding & Nature Journaling Excursion
Hosted by Coastal Mountains Land Trust x Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition
Join Leah Trommer and Cloe Chunn for a relaxed and inspiring birding and nature journaling adventure! We’ll meet at Waterfall Arts at 2 PM, then take a short walk down to the rail trail to observe local birds and explore the natural world around us.
Along the way, you’ll learn how to notice and identify birds, try simple nature journaling techniques, and experience the calming benefits of spending time outdoors. Leah and Cloe will also share information about exciting outdoor opportunities happening in the area this summer.
Participants will receive free trail guides to take home and continue their exploration!
2 – 5 PM Ongoing – Affirmation Station
Hosted by Waterfall Arts
Have you ever heard the saying, “Talk to yourself the way you talk to your friends”? Do you find it easier to believe in others than in yourself? This creative workshop invites you to explore the power of positive self-talk while making meaningful, personalized art.
Participants will design a collection of unique scratch-off note cards using pastels and acrylic paint. Hidden beneath a layer of matte black, each card will reveal a surprise affirmation, positive message, or image when scratched away.
This hands-on activity encourages teens and youth to express themselves creatively, share uplifting messages with friends and family, and practice building a kinder inner voice.
2 – 4 PM (Rolling) – Mic Check/Mind Check
Hosted by Torchlight Media
Come through, bring a friend, and take the mic! Connect IRL and jump into a pop-up podcast studio to create your own mini podcast episode on the spot.
3 PM & 4 PM (TWO SESSIONS) – Shakespeare Movement & Improv Workshop
Hosted by Midcoast Shakespeare Studio
Join us for a fun, high-energy workshop where we’ll explore Shakespeare through movement, sound, and imagination. Each 50-minute session will include engaging movement and improv exercises designed to get everyone comfortable, creative, and working together. We’ll finish by collaboratively building a short, improvised movement-and-sound piece inspired by one of Shakespeare’s scenes.
No prior acting or dance experience is needed—just a willingness to move, play, and try something new!
Important: Because of the short session length, participants should plan to arrive on time. Arriving a few minutes late is okay, but joining too far into the session may be disruptive and make it difficult to jump in.
We can’t wait to see you!
