Darkroom Photography
Our darkroom is a fully outfitted, multi-use space for those working in analog photography.
To learn more about the studio, inquire about a subscription, or schedule an orientation, please email info@waterfallarts.org or by phone at 207-338-2222.
The Photography Darkroom is equipped for analog photography, developing black and white film and printing 35mm to 4×5 negatives with four enlargers, a job for color film development, a UV box, contact frames, trays galore, film tanks, racks, and more.
Some chemistry is available for purchase during open studio hours. All alternative process chemistry requires prior authorization from staff before use in the darkroom.
Studio Monitors
Heads up! Community Studios are monitored by skilled volunteers who are there to assist but not teach. Thank you, Waterfall Arts volunteers! If you don’t yet feel confident working self-sufficiently in the studio, consider taking one of our classes or signing up for an orientation session.
Community Studio Hours
Darkroom Community Studio hours are currently on hold.
The studios at Waterfall Arts all have weekly Community Studio hours with a monitor present. Community Studio fees are $20 per three-hour session. We recommend that interested artists confirm studio hours and reserve a space in advance, as space is limited.
To reserve a space and for more information, you can email us at info@waterfallarts.org or call us at 207-338-2222.
Studio Orientation
Includes a comprehensive review of the studio space, safety protocol, equipment and available resources. Prospective subscribers must attend a studio orientation and be approved by the Studio Manager before initiating a monthly subscription.
Studio Subscription
Artists can apply to have 24/7 access to the studios at Waterfall Arts (other than class time). Cost-saving subscription rates are available for $75/month plus a one time $25 refundable key deposit. Application approval and an orientation session are required.
Photography Classes
Join our team for varying levels of analog photography classes. After a studio orientation, learn how to use our community darkroom and develop different types of film. If classes are full, please sign up for our newsletter below to receive class announcements.
