Looking Back: Earth Week Residency 2007

The first Earth Week residency at Waterfall Arts–supported by the Davis Family Foundation–was April 22-28, 2007.  It involved eight high school students from Mt. View, Belfast and Searsport, who worked with artist Abby Sadauckas to design and create a multi-media installation reflecting their response to environmental concerns.

The resulting work, “Trees, Inc.”, a three-story “tree” was installed in the stairwell of Waterfall Arts.  The tree began with roots in the sea and rose to branches that became skeletal smokestacks.

The students said of their work:

“We were inspired by nature, the earth, awareness, industry, and climate change…Our cooperative results yielded a satisfying and worthwhile accomplishment.”

The success of this residency lives on in Waterfall Arts history, inspiring many more years worth of Earth Week residencies.
