Color Theory 1 – Winter 2020 (COURSE FULL) – POSTPONED

March 27, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Waterfall Arts Belfast, 256 High Street
Belfast, 04915 United States

This class moves sequentially through a series of exercises that demonstrate the behavior of color in certain conditions, as the painter learns to identify color relationships. In addition to the in-class lessons, assignments issued each week will be completed at home. Attention is paid to identifying what we see in terms of color, interpreting information and translating observation into a mix, learning color interaction, handling paint. In the beginning we focus on the essentials that establish a foundation for moving on to more advanced work. Later, as the course progresses there will be occasion to put these essentials into practice as we paint directly from observation. Weekly critique provides opportunity to clarify concepts and discuss whatever’s going on in the group. All are welcome - no previous experience needed. This course benefits anyone with an interest in color - pastel artists, watercolorists, designers, photographers, painters, sculptors, fiber artists, ceramicists.

Kids making art together

Join Waterfall Arts at the Captain Albert Stevens Elementary School (CASS) on Friday afternoons for early release! Bridge JR is a creativity club with a different project every week, plus time for free-draw and independent work. Led by art educator Bridget Matros, who believes that all students benefit from strengthening problem solving, critical thinking, flexibility, envisioning, collaboration, and observational skills. Artmaking is a fun way to do all that! This will be a judgement-free zone - no worries about being "talented."  Kids can choose to show their work to others, but otherwise we practice not giving feedback unless an artist asks for it. Maximum 16 students. All participants must be enrolled at CASS. This session grades 3 - 5.
