This 5-day camp (Monday August 7 – Friday August 11) will introduce girls to basic woodworking tools, skills and design elements. Participants will brainstorm their unique designs then develop problem-solving skills to turn those ideas into reality. The campers will look at examples of artists who use wood in their work, find inspiration in nature, and gain experience through hands-on wood-based projects. They will practice scale, modeling, and revising as they learn how to go from sketch to finished project. All materials included. Ages 12+
About the instructor: Phoebe Walsh’s first memories of woodworking take place in the bed of her father’s pick up truck sanding scrap wood into funky shapes. She hasn’t stopped sanding since! Phoebe is now a sculptor and artisan based out of Camden, ME and Northampton, MA. She is passionate about the power in giving girls access to a skill that isn’t always offered to them and looks forward to sharing her craft with the young members of our Midcoast community!
