Printmaking for Creative Collage
April 4, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
One event on April 5, 2020 at 10:00 AM
This unusual course, led by Abbie Read and Karin Otto, is a two-day workshop suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience. Participants will learn about both printmaking and collage separately, and then experiment using them together. The themes of landscape, architecture, and/or natural forms will be our starting points. Printmaking is a very exciting medium, not always predictable, but usually highly rewarding. You’ll learn a range of different techniques, including collagraphic, simple intaglio, and monoprinting. The workshop will guide you through each process and you’ll be given time to explore each one. Both water-based and oil-based printing inks will be used. The collage portion of the course is designed to help you explore how to imply depth and form by using the variety of work created on the first day of the workshop. The collage day will focus on learning the art of simplification, the importance of shape and line, and how to use a scalpel blade, scissors, or tearing to ‘draw’.

Following the pursuit of yet another degree, this time in Landscape Design, she and her husband Bart relocated to mid-coast Maine where her 10-year-old landscape gardening business, ARTgarden, is thriving.
