Hello all and happy summer!
I’m pleased to announce that we at Waterfall Arts are confident we can offer safe camp experiences this summer without sacrificing the quality of interactions, projects, and relationships that make our art camps memorable. It takes some creativity and lots of research, but we would like to share our plans thus far.
The management of Covid19 is a constantly evolving situation and guidelines continue to evolve. We will ultimately be following whatever guidelines are in place in July. We are informed by national and state CDC guidelines for camps and childcare facilities and the Camp Operations Guidecreated for the YMCA and American Camps Association.
Parents should remember that all activity outside of the home involves a risk of infection that must be weighed with the benefits. Those with high risk family members or those who are already engaging in other activities outside the home should give careful consideration to camp. We know that Covid 19 will continue to spread this summer and beyond, and that some in our community will get sick; what we can do is continue to “flatten the curve” and limit contagion.
You can find our full tentative plan for summer camp safety here.
- Out of state visitors are required to self quarantine for 14 days before camp begins.
- We will require a quick symptom questionnaire be completed before drop off, and campers’ temperatures will be taken before entry into the building.
- Hand sanitization is required when entering Waterfall Arts.
- Campers will use separate entry/exit doors and restrooms and will not be within 6’ of any staff other than their teacher while at Waterfall Arts.
- When weather permits, camp will be outdoors. We are limiting each camp to 8 children, to assure adequate space when the weather requires us to be indoors (with cross ventilation).
- Art supplies and toys will not be shared. Campers will have their own materials for the week.
Please contact us with questions or feedback to help us further develop our plans!
CAMP DESCRIPTION: Out in the fresh air, we’ll be plein air artists using every medium. Printmaking, weaving, sketching, tie-dying, painting at easels, clay sculpting, and more – all inspired by the leaves, trees, flowers and summer sun!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Bridget Matros is the Kids & Families Program Coordinator at Waterfall Arts. Matros came to Waterfall Arts with over 15 years of teaching art at every level and setting — from preschool circle-time to computer literacy classes for the elderly. A practicing artist herself, Matros developed and grew the Art Studio exhibit and program at the Boston Children’s Museum, is a published advocate for quality creative development in early childhood education, and has been deemed one of 21 “young leaders in arts education” by Harvard scholars.
