Linocuts: Making the Right Mark (4-week class)

February 20 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST

$135.00 – $165.00

Class meets: February 20, 27, March 5, 12. Linoleum prints are all about mark-making: creating effects for different surfaces or how light operates in a space is all dependent on how the artist uses both positive and negative marks. This four-week course is a focused look at exploring mark-making techniques to create richly textured and complex relief prints.

We will be working with single layer prints only. You’ll leave the course with a solid knowledge base on how to create an image, carve a block, set up a press, and make a successful print edition. This class is ideal for folks who have some experience with linoleum cut prints but want to deepen their mark-making skill set. Beginners are welcome and no prior knowledge of printmaking is required.

About the instructor: Annika Earley makes drawings and prints about transformation, in-between states, and the experience of being a woman and parent. Born and raised near Basel, Switzerland, she often uses Swiss and German folktales as reference points in her work.

She has been a resident at the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Rockland, ME, Hewnoaks Artist Colony in Lovell, ME, Monson Arts in Monson, ME, Pace House Residency in Stonington, ME and will be in residence at the Walkaway House in North Adams, MA in Summer 2023 and at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland in Spring 2024. She has been supported by the St. Botolph Foundation in Boston, MA, the New York Foundation for the Arts, The Albert K, Murray Fund, and SPACE Gallery’s American Rescue Plan Grant.
