This series is for students that have a clear understanding of the exposure triangle and beginner concepts of composition. We will be covering more advanced techniques and compositional elements in an effort to help guide students toward developing their own unique style. Students will have assignments throughout that will be discussed in class along with a final project at the conclusion of the course.
Students should have a device that allows them to connect to Zoom, in order to participate in the group lessons and discussions. A point and shoot camera of any kind (including a cell phone camera) is suitable for this course. The ability to control and an understanding of exposure will enhance your experience.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Thom Williams is a photographic artist currently living in Troy, NY. Thom earned a B.F.A. from SUNY Oswego with studio concentrations in Graphic Design and Photography. He has taken photographs ranging from fashion editorials, portraits, architecture, athletic events and street photography. Whether a gesture, expression, or angle of architecture, Thom is inspired by capturing images not otherwise seen of ordinary moments that can have profound reflective meaning for the viewer. As an artist, he is interested in experimenting digitally with images and more recently in presenting images in a unique multidimensional way.
His fashion editorials have been published in Saratoga Living, The Muse and Tattoo Envy Magazine, among others. Thom’s work can be viewed on TM Williams Photography through Facebook or Instagram.
Teaching at multiple art centers for the past 3 years in person and virtually beginning in 2020, he has found an avenue to share his passion and foster growth for others interested in photography.
