Bridge – Free Afterschool Art Club for 6th graders (FULL)
December 11, 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
An event every week that begins at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, repeating until December 18, 2019
Bridge is a free afterschool art club for creative 6th graders to connect to themselves, each other, and the community. Over weekly sessions club members become a tight knit group of supportive artists, learning to be themselves and find their unique voices in a judgement-free zone.
After snack, Bridge students share news or projects they’ve been working on, learn to use new materials or techniques, collaborate on group projects, take on independent projects, meet local artists, show their work in a gallery show, and develop leadership skills while staffing public art events. Being a “good artist” is NOT criteria for being in Bridge! Any sixth grader who likes making stuff and being creative will love it.
Bridge also helps kids develop leadership skills! Students help staff our fun All Ages Art Happenings (AAAH) events throughout the year. Some of these are evenings or weekend days. We’ll send out a list of dates once you’re signed up. Bridge students are encouraged to attend as many of the events as possible. We can help with transportation, too, so your student doesn’t miss out on these special opportunities.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Bridge is led by the Youth & Family Outreach Manager, Bridget Matros. Matros came to Waterfall Arts with over 15 years of teaching art at every level and setting — from preschool circle-time to computer literacy classes for the elderly. A practicing artist herself, Matros developed and grew the Art Studio exhibit and program at the Boston Children’s Museum, is a published advocate for quality creative development in early childhood education, and has been deemed one of 21 “young leaders in arts education” by Harvard scholars.
Bridge is part of the Youth & Family Outreach (YFO) Program at Waterfall Arts. The program provides safe spaces for young artists to connect with themselves, each other, and the community through quality creative experiences.
Waterfall Arts’ Youth & Family Outreach Program is made possible by local business sponsors Bangor Savings Bank, The Green Store, Little River Veterinary Clinic, Sundog Solar, and CG Bikes. Additional support is provided by foundations such as the Onion Foundation and the Maine Arts Commission, as well as individual donors.
Although Bridge is a free program, registration is required.
