Bridge JR at CASS – CANCELED
May 1, 12:00 PM - 3:15 PM$70
Join Waterfall Arts at the Captain Albert Stevens Elementary School (CASS) on Friday afternoons for early release! Bridge JR is a creativity club with a different project every week, plus time for free-draw and independent work. Led by art educator Bridget Matros, who believes that all students benefit from strengthening problem solving, critical thinking, flexibility, envisioning, collaboration, and observational skills. Artmaking is a fun way to do all that! This will be a judgement-free zone – no worries about being “talented.” Kids can choose to show their work to others, but otherwise we practice not giving feedback unless an artist asks for it. Maximum 16 students. All participants must be enrolled at CASS. This session is for grades 3 – 5.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Bridget Matros is the Kids and Families Outreach Coordinator at Waterfall Arts. Matros came to Waterfall Arts with over 15 years of teaching art at every level and setting — from preschool circle-time to computer literacy classes for the elderly. A practicing artist herself, Matros developed and grew the Art Studio exhibit and program at the Boston Children’s Museum, is a published advocate for quality creative development in early childhood education, and has been deemed one of 21 “young leaders in arts education” by Harvard scholars.
Bridge JR is part of the Kids and Families Outreach (KFO) Program at Waterfall Arts. The program provides low cost, safe spaces for young artists to connect with themselves, each other, and the community through quality creative experiences. The Kids and Families Outreach Program is made possible by local business sponsors Little River Veterinary Hospital, The Green Store, and CG BIKES. Additional support is provided by foundations such as the Onion Foundation, Anonimo, and the Maine Arts Commission, as well as individual donors.
