A series of 4 classes focusing on beginner composition techniques. It is best if students have a working knowledge of their camera including an understanding of the exposure triangle. Each class will include new instruction and homework designed to put into practice new knowledge. Images created will be reviewed in class for students to receive input and further guidance.
Students should have a device that allows them to connect to Zoom, in order to participate in the group lessons and discussions. In addition, DSLR or mirrorless cameras (or any point and shoot camera that can adjust shutter speed, aperture & ISO) are recommended for this course. However, since this program has a focus on composition more than the functionality of DSLR or mirrorless cameras, phone camera users could still benefit from this course.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Thom Williams is a photographic artist based out of the Troy, NY area. After picking up a camera in elementary school during the age of film, he continued his creative journey at SUNY Oswego, graduating with a BFA degree in photography. Being a full-time commercial/fine art photographer as well as teaching an extensive list of classes keeps him completely in his element of constant exploration and immersion in the art form he loves so much. Although he has taken the past year off from gallery shows to focus more on instructing at several art centers, he is looking forward to bringing a fresh new look to his offerings in the coming year. He believes that there is nothing better than helping someone find their artistic voice — and frankly many times you learn a lot about yourself in the process.
