2018 OPEN CALL: OCEANS
Exhibition Dates: April 6 – May 11
Drop off: March 27 – 30th
Opening Reception: April 6 from 5:00-8:00PM
As human beings, as well as artists, we try to appreciate our place in the natural world, studying ways art can champion planetary stewardship. This year, at Waterfall Arts, we take a dive into the ocean. While the sea is a constant in our lives on the Maine coast, it has many facets, some known and much still a mystery. Sea life, marine adaptations, salt, coastal weather, the fishing industry, and climate change harbingers are just a few of the lenses scientists, artists, makers, and coastal denizens use to learn from our oceans.
This year we invite you, as local artists, to participate in our annual Open Call show by exploring what is important or meaningful to you about the ocean we know so well and yet still consider full of the unknown. Do you see the ocean from your home? Do you study marine life? Do you make drawings of tidal flows? Do you take photographs of what you find particularly beautiful about our ocean here in Maine?
The Open Call show at Waterfall Arts is an opportunity for everyone to participate in the artistic dialogue around our 2018 theme, “Oceans.” Please bring your work (one piece per person) to Waterfall Arts between March 27 and 30, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. March 30 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for drop off. The show will open on April 6, with the public invited to attend. Please, all work MUST be ready to hang, with reliable hanging devices. Matting and framing improves the presentation of your work, and hanging devices must be in place for the work to be accepted. Magnets and nails are not acceptable.
