We are more than just a little bit excited about our new large format etching press in the Print Studio. To celebrate, we are hosting a very special Malt & Monotype on March 24. Malt & Monotype, like our popular Wine & Wheel and Draft & Draw events, combines art making with a laid back atmosphere and an introduction to the resources available in our public studios. At this event, participants will see demos with our new press and work with print artist Gwen Tatro to make small monotype pieces to take home. All levels of experience welcome. The event is $10, beverages available by donation. 21+ please.
And here’s where we gush about our new printing press:
Thanks to a grant from the Kennedy Family Foundation, we were able to purchase a new Conrad Etching Printing Press for our open Print Studio. The best part of this new etching press is its size! The E-37 is the largest press offered by The Conrad Machine Co. Its bed measures a whopping 37” by 54”, which can accommodate nearly all of the largest paper sizes. One of the most important components of any etching press is its drive. Conrad Machine Co. has developed three sizes of planetary gear drives for all sizes of etching presses. Gear drives are superior to chain drives requiring no adjustments for the life of the press. With a gear driven press, the artist can enjoy smooth and effortless printing under heavy pressure with no transitional pull coming off a plate. Conrad Machine Co. is the only press manufacturer to use this planetary gear technology.
