Textiles as Paintings

Piecework: textile as painting – Using found materials, worn out clothing and supplies from the sewing basket, we will work on assembling inventive pieces of textile art. Painting principles such as color, form, texture and composition will be discussed in regards to combining and arranging fabric swatches. While sewing experience is not necessary, we will use simple needle and thread as well as iron-on fusing to attach pieces together.*Please note this is not a traditional quilting class.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Ingrid Ellison was born in Boston and has made Maine her home for the past 11 years. Since moving to the mid-coast she has exhibited throughout New England including the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, The University of Maine Bangor, Aarhus Gallery, The Cynthia Winnings Gallery, and AVA Center for the Arts. Ingrid graduated from Skidmore College with a BS in Studio Art and earned her MFA in Painting from American University. In addition, she studied printmaking at Il Bisonte in Florence, Italy and has participated in residencies and workshops at the Vermont Studio Center and Castle Hill Center for the Arts. Ingrid continues to engage in the arts community teaching a number of workshops each year.

Please try to register no later than one week prior to the first meeting of the class. All classes have minimum and maximum enrollment thresholds, so early registration will improve the chances of a class running and of your slot in it! Minimum enrollment for this class must be met by February 21 in order for it to run. Registration cancellations must be made at least a week in advance to receive a full refund.
