Bridge – Free Afterschool Art for 6th graders
September 19@3:00 pm - December 19@5:00 pmFree
Bridge is a free after school art club for creative 6th graders to connect to themselves, each other, and the community. Over weekly sessions, club members become a tight knit group of supportive artists, learning to be themselves and find their unique voices in a judgement-free zone.
After snack, Bridge students share news or projects they’ve been working on, learn to use new materials or techniques, collaborate on group projects, take on independent projects, meet local artists, show their work in a gallery show, and develop leadership skills while staffing public art events.
Being a “good artist” is NOT criteria for being in Bridge! Any sixth grader who likes making stuff and being creative will love it.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Bridge is led by the Youth & Family Outreach Coordinator, Bridget Matros. Matros came to Waterfall Arts with over 15 years of teaching art at every level and setting — from preschool circle-time to computer literacy classes for the elderly. A practicing artist herself, Matros developed and grew the Art Studio exhibit and program at the Boston Children’s Museum, is a published advocate for quality creative development in early childhood education, and has been deemed one of 21 “young leaders in arts education” by Harvard scholars.
Bridge is part of the Youth & Family Outreach (YFO) Program at Waterfall Arts. The program provides safe spaces for young artists to connect with themselves, each other, and the community through quality creative experiences.
The Youth & Family Outreach Program is made possible by local business sponsors Little River Veterinary Hospital, The Green Store, and VeloInk. Additional support is provided by foundations such as the Davis Family Foundation, the Onion Foundation, and the Maine Arts Commission, as well as individual donors.
Although Bridge is a free program, registration is required, please fill out the form below.
