Waterfall Arts is excited to welcome Bread & Puppet Theater to Belfast for a performance of a new play, The Basic Bye-bye Show – a manifesto on transformation, inspired by Albrecht Dürer’s apocalyptic woodcuts, Brahms 4 Serious Songs, and the daily news.
BREAD & PUPPET PRESENTS:
THE BASIC BYEBYE SHOW
Friday, April 27
at The Crosby Center
Tickets: $15 General Admission, $12 for Annual Members
(no one turned away for lack of funds. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for pay-what-you-can-ticket reservations)
In The Basic Bye-bye Show a series of quiet object fantasies unfolds in black, white, and grey inside a fabric stage printed with elementary words — “Resist,” “Bread,” “Yes,” “Sky,” “Riot,” “Byebye.” Outside, an orchestra of nonsense instruments arises, spins, and recedes. A birch forest grows. Sculpted clouds produce hands, chairs, and rain. The storm passes. The episodes that make up The Basic Byebye Show develop in abstract counterpoint to periodic handkerchief-assisted “basic byebyes” to various brutal unnecessities of our current politics.
After the performance Bread and Puppet will serve its famous free sourdough rye bread with aioli, and Bread and Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books, posters, postcards, pamphlets and banners from the Bread and Puppet Press – will be for sale.
Bread & Puppet will also be offering a CANTASTORIA workshop during their Belfast visit on Thursday, April 26 from 5:30-8:30PM. Read more here.
Bread & Puppet Theater is an internationally celebrated company that champions a visually rich, street-theater brand of performance art filled with music, dance and slapstick. Its shows are political and spectacular, with huge puppets made of paper maché and cardboard. Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann on New York City’s Lower East Side, the theater has been based in the North East Kingdom of Vermont since the early 1970s.
The Crosby Center is located at 96 Church Street in downtown Belfast. Many thanks to our event sponsors for helping us make this Bread & Puppet visit possible! Lead sponsor: K Construction. Major sponsors: G O Logic and Seahorse Stables.
PRESALES FOR THIS SHOW HAVE ENDED. THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS LEFT. DOORS WILL OPEN AT THE VENUE FOR TICKET SALES AT 6:00. DOORS TO THE THEATER WILL OPEN AT 6:30PM.
